Democracy And Accountability In Jamaica At Last!

March 16, 2008

Dear Mr. Prime Minister The Rt. Honorable Bruce Golding:First let me congratulate you on making it to Jamaica House. I speak on behalf of many Jamaicans across the United States, you are breath of fresh air and we are very proud of you. I personally listened to your inauguration speech and I was moved by your utmost brilliance and humility when you unequivocally declared to the world that you were a servant for the people.

Your idea to open dialogue with the Nation demonstated your willingness to serve the people of Jamaica. I have always believed that if you do not know the people by listening to their concerns, you will never be able to lead effectively. Moreover, by allowing the Jamaican people to opine is evidence of democracy at its best. Political participation is not only democratic, it is also patriotic.

Mr. Prime Minister, the saying: “A leader without a vision, the people perish” is a deep rooted ideology and philosophy that we should embrace. Your vision for Jamaica is very obvious and we applaud you. For the first time in many years, there is accountability in Jamaica and it is all because of your leadership.

I join you Mr. Prime Minister in making accountability one of your main agendas. No one should be above the law. From the garbage collectors to the Members of Parliament and Prime Minister, Commisioner of Police and every Jamaican must be held accountable. Justice MUST be rendered to all men and people.

In conclusion, let me quote the late Hon. Peter Tosh :”Every one is crying out for peace, no one is crying out for justice, but there will be no peace, until men have equal rights and justice.”

I wish you great success as Prime Minister of Jamaica.

Yours truly,
Patrick S. Pearce, J.D.
